Spotlight St. Thomas - Coki Beach

Funky beach huts selling local foods such as pâtés (fried turnovers with a spicy ground-beef filling), picnic tables topped with umbrellas sporting beverage logos, quaint vendor kiosks, and a brigade of hair braiders and taxi men make this beach overlooking picturesque Thatch Cay feel like an amusement park. But this is the best place on the island to snorkel and scuba dive. Fish, including grunts, snappers, and wrasses, are like an effervescent cloud you can wave your hand through. Major renovations in late 2011 added a new bathhouse and boardwalk. There are also beefed-up security and regular police patrols in the area after a shooting incident in 2010. Amenities: food and drink; lifeguards; watersports. Best for: partyers; snorkeling.

  1. We went here last year on our cruise on Brilliance OTS. The snorkling was great right off the beach. Within 3 feet of the shore schools of fish will be there and will eat out your hand. Inexpensive trip. Can rent gear right on the beach or purchase on the boat. I think 8 bucks there 8 buck backs by taxi. I don't think I'd eat here.
